With the assistance of culinary specialists, AngelWorks’ clients work in our commercially equipped kitchens and bakery to produce our famous Holy Angels cookies, biscotti and Sister Seraphine Ricci’s Lasagna, which are sold at the David Toms Foundation AngelWorks Gift Shop and at our local community partners – Maxwell’s Market, Counter Culture, and Robinson Film Center.
The History of Sister Seraphine’s Lasagna
In 1947, Bishop Charles P. Greco, Superior Mother Zita Verni, and the 13 founding sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of Sorrows docked in New York Harbor. They brought with them a vision to provide a better life for those with disabilities, and the perseverance and faith to make it possible. They also carried a simple gift to their new land from Romagna, Italy: Sister Seraphine Ricci’s lasagna recipe.
Since the founding of Holy Angels in 1965, the Sisters have prepared and gifted this lasagna to friends, family, and supporters. From the hand-rolled pasta to the rich traditional white and tomato sauces, our residents and staff work together each day to create Sister Seraphine’s recipe that is truly made with abounding love.
“This is the way they make it in Italy, and it is the recipe we grew up with.” – Sister Seraphine Ricci
